Terms

These terms describe use of the OpenHCS project website and open-source software distributions.

Effective July 27, 2026

Open-source software license

The OpenHCS source code and distributions are provided under the MIT License included with the project. That license—not these website terms—governs copying, modification, distribution, and local use of the software. Third-party components remain subject to their own licenses and terms.

Scientific use and validation

OpenHCS software and documentation are provided for research and informational use. They may help explain software declarations or draft an analysis plan, but they are not clinical, diagnostic, medical, legal, or regulatory advice. Users remain responsible for inspecting generated work, choosing suitable controls, validating pipelines and measurements, preserving provenance, and determining whether results are fit for their scientific purpose.

Acceptable use

Users must not use the website to:

  • break applicable law or violate the rights of another person;
  • probe, bypass, or defeat website security controls;
  • disrupt the website, distribute malware, or scrape it abusively;
  • submit credentials, access tokens, patient-identifiable data, protected health information, or other regulated or confidential datasets.

Access may be limited or removed to protect users, infrastructure, the project, or third parties, or to comply with applicable law.

Availability and responsibility

The website, software, and documentation are provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis, without a promise of uninterrupted website availability, permanent storage, support response time, or fitness for a particular scientific purpose. To the extent permitted by applicable law, OpenHCS contributors are not liable for losses arising from reliance on the website, software, documentation, or unavailable resources.

These terms may change when the website, software, or legal requirements change. Material revisions will be reflected by updating the effective date on this page.
